Note: My own experience with Alexa and
why I think it's valuable is because it's a simple tool to see if sites
making various promises are really getting traffic.
While not a perfect tool, you know that a site with a ranking of about
200000 or better (rough estimate here) is at least getting some traffic.
You would be surprised at the promises people make on their websites
and then you find out they have a rank of like 2 million. That's a
person you simply can't trust.
But it's also important to note that I'm talking about sites related to
internet marketing, as these are the sites that allegedly get a little
better ranking than other niches because so many marketing people
download the toolbar.
So I recommend this as a simple check when you want to see if
marketing hype has any kind of substance to it. No, this is not a
perfect tool or anything like that, but it sometimes helps when you
want to research a site before making a final purchase decision.
The higher the number is, the less traffic the site is likely to be
getting.
