Free Sitemap Generator
Google loves sitemaps because it makes it easier for Google's spider to
index all the pages of your site. To make your own sitemap, just enter
your website address below and then follow the instructions to create
your sitemap.
Of course, you will probably improve your rankings in other search
engines by using this sitemap-generation tool. The instructions are
pretty easy if you have very basic knowledge of HTML.
If you have no knowledge of HTML, it is fairly easy to figure out the
instructions if you go to any webpage (even this one), right click, and
then left click on View Source or View Page Source. You will then see
the "head" area of the HTML near the top of the window that pops up.
This is the part of the HTML where you add the short line of HTML (see
instructions). The page you add this to is the index page, which is
your main page.
For the longer HTML-type text (the ror.xml page), the instuctions say
to enter the information into a text editor. I easily found a text
editor on my computer by doing the following:
- Open My Documents from your Desktop;
- Left click on File at the top;
- Then you will see New in the dropdown menu. Highlight and
go to the right to get another dropdown menu;
- Left click on Text Document;
- Then copy and paste the code that the generator gives you;
- Then left click on File in the text pad;
- Then left click on Save As and save as ror.xml.
Now, you just load that into your root directory. A root directory is
usually the public_html folder of your website. For some hosts, it is
the www folder. Just look in your web host account, see where the
current pages are stored, and then save ror.xml file you created in
that same folder.
